1| What’s your testimony?
My testimony started back in August, 2015. God is a God of possibilities. With His power, I did not let one set back determine my future. I initially wanted to become a retail pharmacist, but, I did not do as well on my PCAT exam. However, that didn’t stop me. I still went ahead and tried to find ways to better my score and get admitted. A couple months went by and I realized that pharmacy was not what I really wanted as a career for myself. After research and finding out what my strengths are academically I decided to go back to get a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. During this time, I was told by one of the professors that engineering was not my path, and she did everything within her to make sure that I wouldn’t move forward. But let me tell you all about God, He is greater than and bigger than any man/woman on earth. I committed this to prayer, and while meditating I got confirmation on my next step. I applied to get my Masters of Engineering in Pharmaceutical Engineering, meanwhile I only met one of the requirements to get accepted into the program.
Days later I went to church and my pastor at the time told us at the 8am service that he wanted us to fast for three days and gave guidance on how the fast should go. First off, I am not the kind of person to fast because I love food, but this time was different because I felt something in me telling me to do it. So from the guidance he gave I decided to do the Daniel fast and just worshiped God like never before in those three days. I also committed my application into His hands.
God is Amazing and does not forget His own! On the last day of this fast, I decided to check the status of my application and to my reveal, all I saw was that I was accepted! OMG!!! I started crying and all I could do at that moment was give Him praise.
Fast forward to December 2017, when I graduated with my master’s, I struggled to find a job in my field for 8 months because I had very little experience (I was starting from scratch, since I changed careers paths). I had been applying to jobs like my life depended on it. I went on interviews that resulted in people saying you have such a great personality and your background is great but we are sorry we decided to move forward with a different candidate. After hearing this a couple of times, I started to feel discouraged but I made sure I always went back to His word because that’s where the truth lies. After 8 months of seeking Him, I got a full-time job with benefits. Hallelujah!
2| Verse(s) you held on to while waiting on God?
Some verses I held on to while waiting were:
- John 16:33
- “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
- Jeremiah 29:11
- “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
- Luke 1:37
- “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”
- John 14:27
- “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
3| Hardest moment while waiting on God?
My hardest moment while waiting on God was staying encouraged even when I was weak, both physically and emotionally.
4| What did you do in the meantime?
In the meantime, I made sure I kept myself busy to avoid negative thoughts and letting the enemy feed my thoughts with lies. I kept busy by working out every day, applying to jobs (there were moments when I wanted to give up, but anytime I felt that way I said a prayer) and spending quality time with God like praying, fasting and worshiping Him. Also, I made sure to surround myself with people that can spiritually uplift me and be honest at the same time.
5| How was your relationship with God affected?
Initially, I was disappointed and frustrated with God. But one day while I decided to just worship I got a message through a song that changed my perspective and this moment helped me trust God like never before. I got to know Him on a different level because I sought Him.
I will say this, even after you receive what God has promised, still find the time to have that one on one time with Him every day.
6| Word of encouragement/advice for the waiting period?
Don’t lose Hope, Keep the Faith, Keep pressing Forward. Even though it might seem like progress has not been made, I urge you to continue to pray. As the bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (AMP),
“Rejoice always and delight in your faith; be unceasing and persistent in prayer; in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.”
Always remember to trust the process.
